Getting Started

Request a course account

In order to create your Blackboard course, you need to have a Blackboard account. (If you're not sure if you have a Blackboard account, follow these steps anyway; it will let you know if you already have an account):

  1. Go to http://blackboard.cornell.edu
  2. Click the "New User: Get an Account" link below the Log In button at the top right
  3. Sign in with your NetID and password
  4. Click the Create a Blackboard user account link
  5. If you already have a Blackboard account, you will see a message telling you so. Otherwise, continue to follow the instructions on the screen.

To create a Blackboard course, after you have a Blackboard account:

  1. Go to http://blackboard.cornell.edu
  2. Click the "Request a Course" link under Support Information on the right side of the screen
  3. Sign in with your NetID and password
  4. Click the "Create a Blackboard course shell" link
  5. Verify that you are faculty, or working for faculty as a TA, by clicking the link to continue
  6. Review the copyright information and click the Yes button if you agree to it
  7. Enter the Course ID (e.g. MATH1010), Course name, Instructor's last name, Semester, and Year. Click Submit.
  8. Confirm your request. Your course is created immediately.
Enrolling Students into Your Course

Your students will need to be enrolled in your course. This does not happen automatically when students register for their courses. There are three ways to get your students enrolled:

Students self-enroll

This is the most common way to have your students enroll in your site.

  1. In the Control panel course options area, click "Settings"
  2. Click "Enrollment Options”
  3. Choose "Self Enrollment"
  4. Optionally, you may also set start and end dates, and you may set an Access code that the students will need to enter in order to self-enroll
  5. Click Submit

Batch enroll

You can request a roster file from us which you can use to batch-enroll students in the course. Submit a Roster Request and we’ll send you the file with instructions.

You enroll them

The third option is for you to enroll your students one at a time.

  1. From the Control panel, click "Enroll User"
  2. Enter the person's last name or NetID, click the appropriate "Search By" button (last name or user name), and click the "Search" button
  3. Check the "ADD" box for the user(s) you wish to enroll in your site
  4. Click the "Submit" button

How to Enroll Students who do not have NetIDs

Students who do not have a NetID must request a Guest ID account. To request the Guest ID, go to http://guestid.cit.cornell.edu/reg/register.cfm.

Please contact atc_support@cornell.edu to obtain the login information you would need to provide to the students so that they can access this form.
