Human Subjects Information Regarding Surveys
The Cornell University Committee on Human Subjects (UCHS) exists as a safeguard to promote ethical and responsible treatment of human subjects/participants in research. As the institution's official Institutional Review Board (IRB), UCHS must review and approve all research projects that use human subjects -- regardless of the source of funding -- before the investigator may commence the study. Please refer to the UCHS web site for more information, and to fill out the appropriate application, if necessary.
You don't need to have final approval from the UCHS before beginning the technical work on your survey. However, if approval is required, it must be in place before you can ask participants to fill out the survey.
