Getting Started: A Guide for Students (PDF)
A student oriented overview of Blackboard; including how to get a Blackboard account, how to find a course and enroll in Blackboard, and how to upload assignments and other documents.

How to Enroll in a Course

You must first have a Blackboard account. To create your account:

  1. Go to http://blackboard.cornell.edu
  2. Below the Log In button at the top right of the screen, click "New User: Get an Account"
  3. Sign in with your NetID or Guest ID
  4. Follow the directions on the screen.

Once you have a Blackboard account:

  1. Log in at http://blackboard.cornell.edu
  2. Click "All Blackboard Sites" tab
  3. Search for your course
  4. Click button marked "Enroll"

If there is no "Enroll" button, then the instructor has set course enrollment options so that you cannot enroll yourself. In this case, you will need to contact the professor directly for instructions.

How to Remove Old Courses

To remove courses from My Blackboard area, log in to Blackboard, and make sure you're at your My Blackboard page. You'll see a box labeled "My Courses", probably in the upper right. Click on the little pencil icon in the upper right of the My Courses box. That brings you to a screen where, you can customize the display settings for each of your courses. If you un-check the "Show Course" button for a course, it will remove it from the My Courses box altogether.

Doing the above won't remove you from the course, but it will get them out of your way on My Blackboard page. Only the course instructor or a TA can remove you from the course. If this is an old course that is no longer taught, the instructor can simply make it unavailable and that way it won't appear on your page.
