Podcasting

What is Podcasting?

Podcasting, makes it possible for listeners to subscribe to regularly updated audio files so that new material is automatically downloaded to their computer or listening device such as an iPod, Zune or other mp3 player. Users can subscribe to these podcasts (a.k.a. audio feeds) using applications such as iTunes, Juice and Windows Media Player. To create a podcast one must record the audio and convert it to the right size and format. Then one must create a text file in the RSS/xml format that references the audio file and adds necessary playback and identifying information. Both of these files must be uploaded to a web server to be accessible to users. Finally, the link to the rss/xml file must be sent to the listeners.
